Numbers lets you build beautiful spreadsheets on a Mac, iPad, or iPhone — or on a PC using iWork for iCloud. And it’s compatible with Apple Pencil. This guide helps you get started using Numbers 10.2 on your Mac. To see the version of Numbers on your Mac, choose Numbers About Numbers (from the Numbers menu at the top of your screen). To browse this guide, click Table of Contents near the top of this page. Add page numbers to an existing header or footer in Word. Use the Tab key to position the page number left, center, or right. If the number is flush left, press Tab once for center, and twice for right.

Hi IndianO,

Because you've bought a new MacBook, the newest versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote should be available as free downloads from the App Store when you sign in with your Apple ID.

However, on your iMac, you may have been using the older (and some would say better) iWork '09 versions of Numbers and Pages. If so, it's possible that these older applications have been moved into a separate folder inside your MacBook's Applications folder. The Dock may not know about this move - hence the question marks.

Here are a couple of ways of trying to find them:

In Finder, click the Go menu and choose Applications:

This opens your Applications folder. Inside it, look for a folder called iWork '09:

If you can find it, then inside, you may also find Numbers '09 and Pages '09. These will be the older versions.

Alternatively, hold down the Cmd key and press the space bar. This will launch a Spotlight search and you can type in Numbers or Pages to see if they show up.

Alternatively still, have your Pages and Numbers documents been migrated? If so, what happens if you double-click on them to open them?

If you can get Pages or Numbers running using any of these methods, then these are most probably the original applications from your iMac.

If this is successful, then the applications icons should appear in your Dock (which I'm assuming is on the left-hand side of your screen). If so, you can ctrl-click on the icon, choose Options and then Keep in Dock.

If not, here are some other random thoughts:

Do you still have the iMac? If so, which versions of Pages and Numbers were you using? On the iMac, launch Pages, go to the Pages menu and choose About Pages... You can do the same for Numbers. The latest version of both Pages '09 and Numbers '09 is 4.3.

(Confusingly, the most up-to-date version of the more recent Numbers is 4.0.5, and new Pages is at 6.0.5.)

Another clue is that the application icons are different. Pages '09 has an ink bottle, New Pages has a simple page. Numbers '09 has an exaggeratedly 3D bar chart, New Numbers has a much flatter bar chart.

It's a whole can of worms - hope some of this is helpful.
