Tom Andre is senior vice president of Information Services for the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP) in Los Angeles, California, where he has worked for 20 years. His career in Information Technology spans more than 30 years, and he has served in various roles, including application development, infrastructure management, and software projects management. Prior to his employment with CAP, he has worked in the manufacturing and agricultural industries.
Mr. Andre has a BA in economics from Clark University, Worcester Massachusetts, and an MBA from Babson College, Wellesley Massachusetts.
Tom Bevan is the co-founder and executive editor of RealClearPolitics. Phillip Boren, CPA brings more than a decade of experience in the financial services industry. He specializes in property and casualty insurers with additional relevant experience serving the health insurance, reinsurance, and agent-broker sectors as well as the asset management industry. Mr. Boren also helps lead EY’s west coast InsureTech initiatives by identifying start-ups that aim to enhance, enable, or disrupt the legacy insurance markets.
Current clients range from Fortune 200 publicly-traded organizations, multi-national holding companies, and mid-market regional entities to start-ups, all of which operate and report under SEC, GAAP, and/or multiple statutory jurisdictions.

Tony Cañas, CPCU, MBA is a young insurance nerd, blogger, best-selling author, and speaker. He’s the voice of the Millennial generation in the insurance industry. He helps the industry understand how to engage this large demographic that will soon make up more than 50% of the workforce. He wrote the book “Insuring Tomorrow: Engaging Millennials in the Insurance Industry”.
Mr. Cañas was born and raised in Costa Rica and moved to the U.S. in 2002 receiving his BS in management information systems and MBA from Iowa State University. He has been in the insurance industry since 2009. During that time he has completed his CPCU, AU, AIC, ARM, ARe, ASLI, API, AIS, and AINS designations along with his Toastmaster’s Competent Communicator and Advanced Communicator Bronze public speaking designations. Having worked in claims, underwriting, finance, and sales at four different insurance carriers, in five cities and four states, he has gained a broad understanding of the industry.
He has been very involved in the industry’s effort to recruit and retain Millennials and has become a well-known speaker and blogger on the topic. He has been featured in: “The Edge,” the national magazine of the CPCU Society; the newsletter of the Iowa CPCU Society; and American Agent & Broker. He was named as one of the “Top Young Agents of 2013” by PropertyCasualty360.
Cynthia Cox, MHR, SPHR is the director of Administration and Human Resources for LAMMICO. Ms. Cox has diverse responsibilities that include human resources, employee communications, organizational development, corporate and charitable events, facilities, business services functions, and leading the business continuity, emergency response, and disaster recovery initiatives at LAMMICO. Ms. Cox holds a MA in organizational management and human resources and the SPHR certification from the Society for Human Resource Management and has served as a featured speaker for PIAA and the Conference Board.
Carlos Gutierrez, CPA is a partner in Ernst & Young’s Financial Services Assurance Practice and the West Insurance Sector leader. He joined EY in 1997 and has been a partner since 2008. He has more than 20 years of experience providing accounting and assurance services to local and multi-national companies in the financial services industry.
Mr. Gutierrez has been involved with all facets of GAAP, SEC, broker/dealer, and statutory reporting, including working on several initial public offerings. He also has experience in coordinating audits of global companies, and dealing with revenue recognition, stock compensation, insurance, reinsurance, goodwill, and other intangible assets, and earnings per share matters.
Mr. Gutierrez is a graduate of the University of Southern California and a licensed CPA in the state of California.
Johanna “JoJo” Harris is senior vice president of Human Resources at The Jacobson Group, a leading global provider of talent to the insurance industry. In this role, she is responsible for leadership and management of the firm’s human resource functions. This includes formalizing, implementing, and overseeing all human resources policies and procedures with a strong focus on internal talent acquisition, retention, and development. Ms. Harris also serves on the Executive Management Team and plays an integral role in the growth and development of the firm.
She joined Jacobson in 2015 and quickly made a positive impact on the organization’s culture. Prior to joining Jacobson, Ms. Harris served as human resources director/business partner for Morton Salt. She has also previously held the roles of human resources manager for the Chicago Tribune Company and cost accountant and human resources coordinator for Armstrong World Industries.
She received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Penn State University and a Master’s degree in human resources and industrial relations from Loyola University of Chicago.
Gregory P. Jacobson
Gregory P. Jacobson is co-chief executive officer of The Jacobson Group, a leading provider of talent to the insurance industry. Mr. Jacobson has successfully guided the firm through substantial growth over the years, as demonstrated by the company’s recognition as one of the fastest-growing private staffing firms on multiple occasions. He is a board member of the National Insurance Industry Council for the City of Hope and a former board member for the Chicago Sinfonietta, the United States’ most diverse orchestra. He is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and an Independent Director of a New York-headquartered specialty property and casualty insurer. Mr. Jacobson graduated from Illinois State University of Normal.
Kurt Johnson, FCAS, MAAA joined BMS in August 2013 and currently serves as executive vice president, Analytical Services for BMS Re U.S. With expertise in ratemaking, loss reserves, commutations, capital modeling, and management reports, Mr. Johnson provides a full scope of actuarial support and related services to BMS Re U.S. clients. He serves on the BMS U.S. Executive Committee and is located in Minneapolis.
Mr. Johnson has more than 25 years of progressive industry experience, having served as second vice president at General Reinsurance, senior vice president at E.W. Blanch, managing director and regional manager of Guy Carpenter’s Minneapolis office, and actuarial consultant at Christopher Gross Consulting.
He holds a BS in mathematics with a concentration in statistics from St. Olaf College, and has completed the coursework for a Masters in Statistics from the University of Minnesota. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Chad C. Karls
Chad C. Karls, FCAS, MAAA is a principal and consulting actuary in the Milwaukee office of Milliman, Inc. He specializes in medical professional liability and has assisted numerous clients with a large variety of actuarial needs, financial reporting issues, rating agency matters, and pricing and rating projects. Mr. Karls is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin.
Paul H. Keckley
Paul H. Keckley, PhD is managing editor of The Keckley Report, a weekly blog covering health industry trends and issues and is an advisor to large integrated health systems on strategies for growth and sustainability.

Paul McCaffrey is the chief financial officer for CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer. Mr. McCaffrey leads the company’s finance division and is responsible for accounting, financial planning and analysis, audit, investments, tax, enterprise risk management, and sourcing. In 2016 he joined the leadership team that is focused on supporting the evolving needs of AAA members, and has led a successful business transformation including building single policy and claims administration systems, developing and deploying new products, and simultaneously creating new data, digital and customer service capabilities.

Bob Nelson, PhD is the president of Nelson Motivation Inc., a management training and consulting company that specializes in helping organizations improve their management practices, programs, and systems. Dr. Nelson received an MBA in organizational behavior from UC Berkeley and earned his PhD in management education with Dr. Peter Drucker, “The Father of Modern Management,” at the Drucker Graduate Management School of Claremont Graduate University in Los Angeles where his dissertation focused on employee motivation in the healthcare industry. Christopher Olmsted, Esq. is an attorney and shareholder with the law firm Ogletree Deakins. He provides employment law compliance counseling to businesses. His practice also focuses on the defense of employers in a variety of legal matters, including state and federal court litigation, administrative claims filed with the Labor Commissioner, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the EEOC, and the Employment Development Department.
Mr. Olmsted has served as an instructor at Cal State University, San Marcos, where he teaches human resources law as part of the HR Management Certificate program. He is frequently an invited speaker for various industry groups, and regularly publishes employment law articles. Mr. Olmsted received his JD degree from Loyola Law School Los Angeles and his BA degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
Jeffrey J. Reider
Jeffrey J. Reider, CPA, CPCU is partner and head of Ward Group, a business unit of Aon plc, with overall leadership and responsibility for the firm. Mr. Rieder has significant experience in the insurance industry with expertise in the property/casualty and life segments. Throughout his 23 year career, he has been involved in more than 400 projects for numerous domestic and international insurance companies, covering a diverse range of performance and strategic evaluations. Mr. Rieder leads Aon’s global performance benchmarking practice for insurance and the U.S. insurance compensation practice. Prior to joining Ward Group in 1998, Mr. Rieder spent 5 years at Great American Insurance Company working in the corporate finance departments.

John Roberts, CPA serves as the managing partner of the Insurance Services Group. He has more than 20 years of public accounting experience focused on the insurance industry. Serving Fortune 500 companies, mutual carriers and privately held insurers, Mr. Roberts focuses on audit and advisory services for the insurance industry. His experience with technical research, practical working knowledge of statutory accounting, and his hands-on experience with transactional support affords his clients with tactical and practical solutions to the challenges faced by insurers today. Rob Vigil has more than 25 years of IT infrastructure experience and currently serves as the IT Service Delivery manager for COPIC in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Vigil is passionate about the end-user experience and is relentless in applying technology to increase efficiencies in the workforce without sacrificing the bottom line. He has been involved with everything from batch computing to cloud computing and everything in between. He believes that the application is the star of the show and that the endpoint is only the stage on which it performs. Everyone comes to see the star but without the stage and the crew to light it up, there is no performance.
